Mamihlapinatapai

I just came across a list of ten words that cannot be translated into English.  Mamihlapinatapai is a look exchanged between two people who both want to say something while being reluctant to initiate the conversation.  I'm pretty sure I've been one half of that definition.  I have to wonder if there's a word for a time when one person is dying to bring up a subject, but the other person is completely oblivious.  I would be more familiar with that concept!

Independence Day

I am so grateful for the freedoms that we enjoy as citizens of the United States of America.  I find it kind of interesting to think about what this day must have meant to the founding fathers and their families.  For them, this day would mark the beginning of a struggle against a superpower of a nation.  There was a great likelihood that they would never actually achieve the independence that they were declaring on this day in 1776.  I recently read a biography of John and Abigail Adams and was very enlightened.  Their lives were forever changed by John's role in our nation.  As a leading patriot, John's life and those of all his family members were in great jeopardy.  It almost seems like it would be just as fitting to celebrate the end of the revolutionary war when I think about it that way. 

A Little About This Blog...

My nephew and niece call me No-No.  I don't know how that came about.  My sister says it's because of that old song "Nobody But Me" by The Isley Brothers (I totally needed to look that up online... we just call it "the No No song").  I think maybe it's because I'm kind of a mean aunt.  I say "No" quite often.
The "Oh, No" part of the title of my blog is because, well, we have lots of those kind of moments around here!  My plan is to fill you in on a little bit of the insanity as I post.
